A Million Candles Burning
The lights of a million candles are showing up just now to light the way forward for us all. Even in the darkest of times, there is a light that comes through, and we are each the bringers of that light.
As I write this in 2024, a whole new time is upon us. We are each a candle burning to light the way in the coming years.
This painting is named after two songs by one of my favorite songwriters of all time, Leonard Cohen, ‘Anthem’ and ‘You Want It Darker’.

Between the Rain and the Sun, New Growth
The rain and the sun work together to create the possibility for new growth to happen. Sometimes it seems like nothing much is growing, but it's all there. What's coming might be just below the surface, or so small that we don't yet acknowledge its existence, but it's on the way. The rain and the sun don't give up, showing up is what they do.
Sometimes there is too much rain and the seeds wash away, or the sun is too hot and the seedlings die, but eventually there will be new growth. The trick is to persevere, trust, and allow the growth to take place. The rain doesn't do it alone, neither does the sun.

Bubble Man
It was a foggy day, a day that never really saw the sun. One had to imagine that the sun was up there somewhere, but darned if I could see it.
All of a sudden there were bubbles everywhere, coming out of the fog, dropping from the sky. This could only mean one thing. We'd all heard of him, but nobody had ever witnessed the Bubble Man in person before, and yet here he was coming down our street!
We all stood around with our mouths open, as the massive man who brought bubbles with him everywhere moved silently through the neighborhood. Phones came out of pockets, selfies and videos taken to prove to everyone we knew that the Bubble Man was indeed very real. As he trailed off, stray bubbles floating over our lawns, a collective sigh arose.

Memory Tree
The tree appeared out of the mist one full moon night, in the field where all the flowers had been the summer before. The flowers were gone now, some of them recently, some long ago. Memories were all that remained for we who had known them.
Perhaps because it grew where the flowers had been, the tree knew the same song the flowers once sang. As the tree sang the flower’s song, the memories of flowers that had come and gone helped us all feel our love and grief for the flowers we missed.

Noir Man
‘Noir Man’ brings mystery and intrigue with him wherever he goes, along with a sense of style that can’t be duplicated. Timeless and magnetic, Noir Man surrounds himself with colorful characters, some of whom seem to disappear when looked at directly, as if they’re not really there. Did you imagine they were? Are they merely a figment of the imagination?
Noir Man has his own soundtrack, much like a signature cologne, (he has one of those too). Everything about this man is subtle, barely there, yet noticeable.
The magic of Noir Man is not simply the mystery he brings, but the powerful way he attracts attention, while not appearing to do anything at all. Noir Man seems to step back and blend in, but the truth is that he knows the secret to standing out, effortlessly.

Offering
I recently made an offering to myself. I promised to do my best with this next level of new growth, this next phase I'm heading into.
This is a peace offering as well - for too long it feels like I've been fighting something. In ending my need to do battle, I can have the joy and peace I've been running after for such a long time. Maybe it's easier than I'd thought was possible?
